How to Add Focus Cell to the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel

Add Focus Cell to the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel so you can turn its row and column highlighting on or off without returning to the View tab.

Add Focus Cell to the Quick Access Toolbar

Open a worksheet in an Excel version that includes Focus Cell. On the View tab, locate Focus Cell, right-click the button, and select Add to Quick Access Toolbar.

Use the shortcut

Select the new toolbar icon to turn Focus Cell on. Select it again to turn the highlighting off. The shortcut stays available while you work on other ribbon tabs, such as Home, Insert or Page Layout.

Change the highlight color or remove the shortcut

To change the highlighting, open the arrow next to View → Focus Cell and choose Focus Cell Color. To remove the shortcut, right-click its Quick Access Toolbar icon and choose Remove from Quick Access Toolbar. Removing the shortcut does not remove the Focus Cell feature.

If Focus Cell is not available

Check your Excel version and update channel. These steps apply when the Focus Cell command is available; its presence can differ by version and platform.
